The Deacons of Evergreen are seeking our next Senior Pastor. This is a critically important time in the history of our fellowship. Our current pastor, Jon Rumley, has served in this position for the past 32 years and is retiring. This long-term ministry should serve as both an encouragement and a challenge.
This should encourage you because our church body has always taken great care of our pastors. We have never had a great amount of turnover in this position allowing our pastors to enjoy strong relationships, support and good will.
We also are aware that this will pose a challenge to the next man. We know that it can be difficult to follow a beloved and long-tenured leader. Knowing this, we are abiding in prayer to seek God’s will in this search. The leadership of this church has committed to supporting and empowering our next pastor as we seek to help him begin his ministry in this church body with success.
To prepare for our search, our church appointed a transition team of 17 men and women that met regularly to discuss our church, its strengths, weaknesses, and needs. We prayed and sought the Lord’s wisdom as well as the wisdom of multiple outside advisors. This allowed us to come together and create the basic parameters for the position and the search that the Deacons will be following.
Please spend time in prayer as you consider applying to serve in this position. We pray that the Lord will guide both ourselves and you during this time.
